    " bad experience" (107162485)

    did not see any

Everything advertised in the internet seemed to be false, eg. it says breakfast included, on attending the breakfast room your name not in the list, twin beds advetised only single beds provided, fire alarm with horrible noise goes on 2:30 in the morning, receptionest not polite and not trained properly and many others....

"Overall our stay was pretty disappointing, and our Sunday wasted as we were so tired." (107230064)

Complaint was delt with well by manager and some money was removed from bill. Room we were moved too looked quite nice, especially in comparison to the previous one.

We booked a deluxe room. On arrival we checked in and proceeded to the room we were given. It was small and outdated, the walls were scuffed, there was a cracked tile on the bathroom floor and the bath contained a suspicious looking hair. As we had chosen this hotel due to the leisure facilities we decided to go and have a look at the swimming pool. We were informed by reception that this was located across the road in a leisure centre. On arrival at the leisure centre we were informed that the swimming pool was being refurbished and that the hotel was aware of this. On return to the hotel I complained about the quality of the room and the fact that they were advertising the pool facilities. We were told that we had only booked a normal room, although this quickly changed when I mentioned that I had proof that we had booked a deluxe. We were then shown to an alternative room, which was much nicer, however the toilet smelled as if someone had died in it! We got some room spray and accepted the room as we had better things to do than inspect the whole hotel for a suitable room. On returning from our dinner (thankfully eaten at a different hotel) we asked reception if we could have a late check out, but were told that we would have to call down in the morning - thus defeating the object of getting a lie in in the first place. During the night it became very hot in the room so we switched on the air conditioning. It sounded like a 20 litre kettle starting up and we were unable to hear the television over it, let alone sleep. As we had to wake early to call for our late checkout, and due to the heat in our room we got very little sleep.

"Couldn't see much evidence of the refurbishment but a good stay overall. Room far more pleasant than last time and the check-in staff on Friday and housekeeping were excellent! Make sure you put the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on your door every evening to avoid being woken up at an ungodly hour by Housekeeping." (97503121)

Clean, pleasant room (unlike last time where it smelt of ammonia/urine). Flat screen tv with an excellent selection of channels and they hadn't removed the rubber ducks from the bathroom! Check-in staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Horribly uncomfortable pillows. Tap difficult to operate in the shower. Dreadful, surly staff in the (overpriced) Oak & Avacado Restaurant. Being woken up by housekeeping at 7am in the morning wanting to clean my room!

    CHEAP EXCELLENT ROOM SERVICE

TOO MUCH NOISE AND SHOUTING DURING THE TIME OF CLEANING THE ROOMS THE TESTING OF FIRE ALARMS AT 1pm WAS UNACCEPTABLE - THE REASON I HAD FOR BOOKING THIS ROOM WAS TO GET SOME REST BEFORE MY NEXT FLIGHT !!!!!!! THIS NEVER HAPPENED

    "Comfortable services." (97052058)

Service and restaurant facilities were good.

Bathroom had cracked paint in the ceiling and mildew on the shower tiles. The toilet was practically unuseable being so close to the wall. The inside of the main door frame and molding were cracked, chipped and needed painting.

"Well below expectations, I assume that most of the guests are only staying for 1 or 2 nights on their way to or from their holiday destinations." (97846543)

Excellent coffee available in the bar. Very convenient for the course that we were attending at the same hotel.

1st room -smelt strongly of cigarettes, we asked to be moved and we were moved to another room. 2nd room - scalding hot shower, which luckily I ran before getting into the shower!!.. again asked to move and we were assured that we would be moved. This did eventually happen when we reminded the staff later in the day as, we were informed, the message had not been passed on. 3rd room satisfactory and apparently an upgrade. Breakfast taken in the breakfast room on the first floor on the Saturday morning ( We went out for breakfast after the first day). Quality of the food, especially the coffee very poor.Price of the breakfast £14.95. Performance of the staff also very poor. I was informed that 95% of the visitors at the hotel also drink their coffe black and that there had been no previous complaints. This I found hard to believe. Dissapointing when the machine downstairs in the hotel bar makes such good coffee.

Very nice hotel, nice rooms. Excellent breakfast (included in the rate).

Pricey food and drink. A little away from the tube. Took a while to get checked in and was given a room with a double bed even though I had asked for a twin room minutes earlier. We had to wait nearly an hour until this was sorted.

Staff friendliness and assistance was excellent and very prompt.

The hotel is not adequately signposted. Its address is given as on a main road but it is actually on a slip road and the hotel is NOT visible from that above mentioned main road. Our cab driver had to call them twice to clarify how to get there, causing us extra expense as the cab got lost each time.

"Will never book at this hotel again. Poor customer management with only 1 member of staff able to process the booking. It ruined my family weekend break." (97848445)

    None

Computer system was apparently down thereby unable to check us in. We were referred to another hotel and didn't get to our rooms until 1.30am in the morning. At the referred hotel they said breakfast was not included when it clearly was for one room. I had written confirmation. Clearly the the staff at the Thistle had not faxed over the correct information. We went without breakfast despite having paid for it. The staff did not adequately explain what was going on and there were several people waiting over an hour for the computer system to be working again. Basically they had over booked and no rooms were available despite receiving confirmation. A swipe of my card for £200 was taken without clearly explaining the purpose even though everything had already been paid for. And why £200??

    Complimentary use of local gymnasium

Approximatly an hour or so after I checked out I began to itch all over. I was flying from Heathrow and went to the toilets to see what was the cause and discovered around 26 bite marks on my body. I have been bitten like this before and knew that the bites are caused by bed bugs. the bites are extremly itchy and caused me discomfort and poor sleep during my business trip to Switzerland.

"ROOM: The room smelt badly of 'ingrained' cigarette smoke even though it was marked 'No Smoking' and is now almost a year since the smoking ban in hotels. The room probably needs redecorating to remove the old smell. PARKING: Parking was not good. We eventually parked in car park (B) (there were lots of spaces) but were 'reprimanded' by the check-in staff - who told us it was for staff only. They were talking about our car being clamped - but the car park was not marked in any way as being for staff. Eventually they seemed to understand our problem and said we could park there overnight. The security speaker system at the car park entrance didn't work properly so we couldn't get information without walking into the hotel - 5 times! The reception staff were not very helpful initially and clearly have had to deal with many complaints about parking previously." (97525619)

Excellent breakfast! Clean bedding. Good TV.

Car-parking was horrendous. The room smelt strongly of stale cigarette smoke.

    "Good grub/long walks" (97426572)

Good breakfast (what staying in a hotel is all about)

Have to walk too far for breakfast. Suggest moving the breakfast room closer to the reception. This means guests are more likely to pertake in the breakfasting event while waiting on shuttle bus to the airport, rather than bypassing it in favour of the inferior option in the terminal. Bit of a long walk to the room as well - suggest investing in those electronic people mover things security guards use in some shopping malls, to quicken the room-finding and breakfasting experiences for all.

(97616369)

the decor was lovely, however we had to come through the fire exit to the reception

the way we had to enter the building, no parking, it was full so we had to park on a grass verge. the price of a meal in the hotel was extortionate
