"For a slightly higher amount I could have stayed in a far better hotel. Next time I will choose to do this. The Club desk which was highlighted on the internet was unmanned and the bathrobes which were requested never surfaced." (107217998)

The reception staff was very friendly and efficient

The room was very small, really should be a single not a twin. When running the water in the bath or flushing the toilet the pipes made an horrendous noise. The bathroom was very small and claustrophobic. The facilities in the room were very poor. Some staff could not speak English!

I found the hotel much improved from my last stay at the Strand Palace in 2006. The Club room was very good and the hotel is well managed.

"The hotel is well situated with all tourist attractions. It looks very plush in the reception area and most of the immediate corridors are well maintained. The interlinking corridors are tired with carpets and decor worn and faded." (107288790)

    The breakfast was good.

My first room had a rodent problem. I was moved to a second room on the floor that was been renovated and the room was sub standard - i complained and was upgraded to clubman and moved to a third room. This was smaller than the other two room's but at least it was clean.

"It's a great location for the opera and other activities around the Covent Garden area, the staff are helpful, the hotel is generally very well organized -- and a single room makes it the best value in central London. Booking online with Active gives me the option of paying with cash or credit card, which is a flexibility I appreciate." (97640330)

Great location, well organised, friendly, competent staff

There was noisy construction going on the first day I arrived, and the room was hot, the windows opened only 100 cm. Once I found the fan, which was in the closet, I could get the room temperature as I wanted it.

Friendly staff Some reception areas of the hotel were nice and modern There was a large free standing fan in the room

Cleanliness varied between the 4 rooms that we had Dated bedroom interior

Good location close to lots of areas and POI

Room was qiute small for a double "Club" very dark. Some public areas were a litttle tired looking. Our room looked recently re furbished so could be a work in progress thoughout the hotel?

The hotel was very nice with an excellent location, especially since I had luggage and the Covent Garden tube station has a lift to street level. That was a great help with my luggage." (97937894)

    The location

Can not think of anything I could say I did not like.

"only thing that was nice was the outside of the building and a couple of male workers there but that was about it. i wouldnt stay there again, very disappointing being the strand palace hotel you expect more. " (108000870)

only one memember of staff was willing to help us move rooms, he was a polite man who dealt with the situation well and i would like to thank him on behalf of me and my friend.

first arriving to the check in area we were told there were no twin rooms available because they hadnt been cleaned yet but we were told we could go to are room at 2.00 which wasn't the case had to wait. secondly the staff were rude and very diorganised so many people had to wait for rooms available. we then found the room we stayed in had a fan that didn't work and was blowing hot air all over the room it was like a sauna in there so we went downstairs asked if we could have another fan, but was told housekeeping said no so instead we had to suffer, really great service. So eventually we changed rooms by a kind man who was willing to help we got put into a twin room which wasn't stuffy or hot. checking out we stood around for 15 minutes until my friend had to ask one of the staff members if this was were we drop are keys all she said was yes not even an apologie. two of the members of staff were both really bad at customer service, no smile no apologie no nothing. also the first room we were staying in had a really disgusting stain on the bed which i think is unacceptable as it was meant to be cleaned before we arrived into the rooms.

"We would liked to have known that bedrooms are not ready until about 3pm. Your staff were extremely polite and in general very helpful, that being the reason that we did not wish to make a song and dance about the rooms not being ready on time. You are a very nice Hotel" (97328450)

Beds were very comfortable, and room had good facilities

The room was not ready on our arrival at 2pm, we were asked to return at 2.30pm still not ready, we agreed to accept another room and when we got into it we found that was not ready!! Would have thought we would have been offered an up grade bearing in mind all the inconvenience we had been put to.

"Cheap but you soon find out why. £119 for one night. Would rather spend anoother £50 -£100 quid and have a nice comfortable room." (108062500)

    Cheap. Bathroom adequate.

Room was like a box. The noise was awful. I could see there had been action taken to reduce noise but the wooden panels across the windows made you feel like you were in a prison. There was significant roadworks outside the hotel and made it even more noisy than I would suspect as normal. Nop forwarning of this disruption..... I had a feeling the noise maybe a issue so I asked for a quiet room. It was far from quiet!

"Overall we were very happy with our stay and would stay again. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others" (97644559)

Very polite front door man. Very helpful man on information desk opposite lifts. Room very clean and well presented. Excellent location.

When booking, it asks for guest name, I assumed it was my guests name as I was making the reservation, so check in at club was a little slow as he could not find my name, fortunately I have brought a copy of the booking along, not sure what would happened if I had not. When that was sorted, it was still quite slow checking in and there was no communication to say what he was doing on the pc, although he was polite. Did not like the fact that even though there was a "please queue here" stand, nobody did, and I literally had someone right behind me, so the "stand" was not obvious and people queued on the left and the right! Very hot in the room, would have preferred if top window in bedroom could have opened further even in the bottom one could not.

  • 7/10 Jaime ( Solo business traveller)

from Cardiff , GB  on  June 30, 2008

Very good room - small but very well formed - clean and comfortable.

When I booked on business credit card I expected the room to be paid for. When I arrived at the hotel to check in I was told they needed the card - so I had to provide my personal card (and pay this way) as the business card is for multiple person use in my office. This has meant that I have had to pay and claim the money back - may be worth considering a better process for people in similar positions.

"Perfect location for a trip to the theatre." (97665832)

The room was modern, clean and comfortable and fairly well equipped.

Don't bother with beakfast. £15 for a very mediocre buffet with no option to go for a continental style. The room was on the small side, considering we had paid a bit extra for a "Club" room. The bathroom lacked any shelf space to put toiletries etc down.

Clean and efficient with spacious public areas

Room overlooking the Strand was not surprisingly noisy at night, but the management had tried to deal with this by installing wooden shutters in place of curtains. Long delays in serving pre-theatre supper.

Sounded like buckets or skips being emptied all night. No flannel in bathroom (which is most unusual for any hotel). Told this is included in the upgraded Club rooms?* A lot of money for very little comfort." (97199073)

It is near the Theatre which we were visiting. Lots of restaurants in the area also.

Room VERY small for a double and noisy.

The previous time we stayed I was annoyed to be told in the restaurant that I could not charge meals up to my room as I had not arranged additional credit which was different from all the previous times I had stayed due to a new system that had been introduced but it had not been made clear to me on checking in. However I am now familiar with the system and have no complaints." (97238127)

The room was airy and the bed was very comfortable and I was surprised to find 3 pillows which made the night even more comfortable. The tea and coffee facilities were good the shower fabulous. There was no noise from the corridor which meant I slept well and woke refreshed. I stayed at the Strand Palace in 1971 with a group of work colleagues and I have to say I was not disappointed in my opinion it is still a wonderful Hotel and I would recommend it to anyone and stay again the next time I travel to London. Thank you.

"The hotel was warm and friendly and the staff were helpful and not too overbearing which can be a negative when staying in central London. The hotel room was quite small, or rather, the hotel room was probably the right size for a single but at over £100 per night, a little overpriced in my view...alas that's what London is all about" (97379651)

I found the staff extremely helpful, especially the concierge desk and housekeeping

The room was quite small (Admittedly it was a single though)

It was convenient for where I was visiting although it did take me some time to find it.

The room was very small and drab.
